Topkapı Palace Justice Tower
The Justice Tower, where the sultans listened to the divan meetings, was originally built as a separate tower during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmed. It carries a symbolic meaning, representing the idea that justice was held above all else in the Ottoman Empire. The Justice Tower was renovated and elevated during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II (1819-1820). Later, during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz in the 19th century, it gained its current tall and pointed roof appearance. It was restored in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture.
